Puppets – A Toy Theater Workshop

In this workshop students will produce their own mini proscenium theater, complete with miniature set pieces and actors. By the end of the workshop, participants will have everything they need to perform their own puppet show.
Cake Decorating

You will learn basic techniques to make your cakes look like you got them from the bakery. You will learn the proper way to frost a cake out of the can, and how to make simple borders, flowers, roses, leaves, writing, and more. Tuition includes a cake decorating kit you can take home!

A professional introduction to fusing glass, this 3 session class will teach you the theory and give you the guidance to make 10 wearable pieces of art. We will fire your glass pendant creations after the first two sessions and have them ready for you to finish and take home on the next day. No experience necessary.

This class is a continuation of glass fusing and will add the step of slumping to help you create your own candleholders, business card holders and more. This one-day workshop will give you a warm, fuzzy feeling! You will learn how to turn unwanted wool sweaters into one-of-a-kind works of art. Pack a lunch and join Biology teacher, Pam Haywood Imbrogno, as we take a bus trip out to Magee Marsh. We will look for migrating warblers, tropical water fowl, and bald eagles, just to name a few of the species commonly spotted in this well preserved wetlands habitat. Dress appropriately and for hiking along the shore of Lake Erie.

Ever wished you could draw? You can! In 6 weeks, watch your drawing skills go from beginner to proficient! In this class, we will uncover the “secrets” that artists use to draw realistically. We will cover the basics of observational drawing, with special emphasis on drawing the human face. A variety of 2-dimensional media will be covered, including graphite, marker, pastel, and collage. Uncover your hidden ability!
Costuming 2 – Limitless Edition

Learn and improve your sewing and fashion design techniques from a professional costumer. Participants will help create costumes for The Possibilities Are Limitless, TSA’s dance performance at the Valentine Theater in late March. Some sewing experience recommended.

Did you know TSA has a Recording Studio? Professional Audio Engineer, Paul Wise, will teach students signal flow, multitrack recording, mixing, microphone techniques and editing in this hands-on class. Students will also learn to create many of the amazing sounds and effects heard in today’s music and get a chance to be an assistant engineer on a Toledo International Youth Orchestra concert recording.
Rock and Blues Guitar Class

All you need is a guitar, basic skills, and a desire to play and practice. We’ll provide the book, the studio and excellent instruction to improve your rock and blues techniques. Students who take this class will receive a $5 off coupon for GuitarFest 2012!

If you like acting and comedy, you’ll love improving your skills as a sketch comedian. Participants will work on original sketches that will be performed on the last day of the class. On May 5th, all students will report at 1:00 to rehearse and then perform in front of parents and friends at 3PM in TSA’s Attic Theater.

Do you love good, tasty, homemade food and need/want to cook for yourself? Are you soon to be a dorm room diner? Then this class is for you! Participants will cook a variety of snacks and meals that meet their individual needs, learn more about shopping on a budget, practice kitchen safety, and have a great time slicing, dicing, and creating meals together! All supplies and ingredients are included in the tuition.

This class will introduce students to the traditional Japanese martial art of Goju Ryu Karatedo. The tuition includes a Gi, the traditional uniform for students of Karate. Students will do stretching and strengthening exercises, learn the fundamental blocks, kicks, and punches of the art, be introduced to sparring, and learn the first kata.
