TSA Recognized as a Blue Ribbon School!

 Toledo School for the Arts was recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as one of 320 No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon Schools for 2008. On Thursday, November 20, 2008 at 2:15 p.m. US Secretary of Education Regional Representative Kristine Cohn presented a plaque to school officials in the schools 4th floor Attic Theater. In attendance was Senator Teresa M. Fedor(D), members of the Toledo School for the Arts Board of Directors, staff, Parents Organization representatives and students.

The award is explained on the Department of Education web site: “The No Child Left Behind-Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private elementary, middle and high schools that are either academically superior or that demonstrate dramatic gains in student achievement to high levels. …these schools serve as models for other schools throughout the nation.”

Twenty-one schools in Ohio and one in Michigan were recognized for meeting
one of two criteria: at least 40 percent of their students are disadvantaged and
dramatically improve student performance on state tests or schools whose
students achieve in the top 10 percent of their state on the tests.

Toledo School for the Arts is a community public school that teaches academics through the visual and performing arts. TSA students are involved on over 180 performances and shows each year from solo performances to the annual Kaleidoscope event involving over 400 on stage and off. In addition to core academic subjects, classes are offered in dance, music, theatre and
visual arts.

The mission of Toledo School for the Arts is to provide students with creative opportunities to achieve personal and academic success through its arts-based learning. TSA prepares students as life long learners and productive members of society with appreciation for, and competence in, the arts.
